40 years of Limerick Tutorial College

Limerick Tutorial College was founded in September 1985 as Limerick Tutorial Centre, initially offering weekly grinds. John O’Halloran (Snr) and his wife, Mags, established the school in the old Crescent College building in O’Connell Avenue in Limerick. Following the success of the grinds and revision courses, they introduced a one-year Leaving Certificate programme in 1988.

Building on this momentum, the College launched its full-time Leaving Certificate course in 1990, followed by a full-time Fifth Year programme in 1993. In 1997, after several years of growth and success, John (Snr) and Mags purchased the school. A further milestone came in 2002 when the school was rebranded as Limerick Tutorial College.

John (Snr) has always maintained that while he and Mags had the vision and determination to establish the College and recruit outstanding teachers, it was those teachers who helped shape and grow the College into what it is today.

John (Snr) and Mags continued to lead the College until 2019, when their son, John (Jnr) O’Halloran, and his wife, Fiona, took over its management. Remaining family-run for over 40 years is one of the defining characteristics of Limerick Tutorial College. John (Jnr) believes that treating every student as one of the family is at the heart of the College’s continued success and the excellent results it achieves year after year.
